Basically, Debian and Ubuntu are not fully compatible even though they share a binary format (. Deb) that equal to their packages. Thus the people are obliged to be more careful. But there are some packages can be used on both of these distributions, and some are specific only to one or the other. In this case, Ubuntu has a lot of packages from Debian unstable. Therefore Ubuntu has a fairly ridiculously large repositories. In addition, there are many sources of other parties who make the packages for Ubuntu. The other package was created more to Ubuntu than Debian.
